Section 45 is a long one: 24.5 miles in length. It runs from the Mouth of Dismal Creek (VA hwy 606) to the New River Crossing. Along the way it passes the Wapiti shelter, Sugar Run Mountain, VA hwy 663 and Sugar Run Gap, and Doc's Knob shelter.
